Best Buddies Holloween party

we had fun and we had a big blast on October 23rd to celebebrate Holloween. We met up with our best buddies from Arizona State University. We danced, ate candy, and there was even a haunted house!

Greatest Human Race

On October 23rd, 2010, the Arc of Tempe had our Greatest Human Race Fundraiser event. We had a lot of fun and raised over 7,000 dollars for the Arc of Tempe. Our very own Cheryl Poe won the "most sponsored" title with 47 sponsors. The funds raised by individual walkers ranged from $8 to $788. Ursula Rooney was the quickest done in the 3 times around.

On Saturday May 1st we went to Goldfield Ghost Town. We had a great time until some of our group got put in the slammer. We got to ride a train, take a tour of the mine and watch a gun fight. We had somuch time that some of us want to go again next month.

Our staff Eric asked Renee, another staff, to go to prom with him. He involved all of us here at the Arc. Hopefully she said yes!!

Our Friend Lisa won a prize at the county fair for her popsicle-stick guitar that she made. Way to go Lisa!!

Life Skills

We went to a park and played some games to help us get into shape. We enjoyed an obsticle course. This course included hula hoops, throwing balls into a cup, jump roping, lifted weights and bowling. It was a great night having fun!!

Cooking Club

For cooking club in April we made monkey bread. Monkey bread is Pillsbury dough that is rolled into a ball, dipped in butter and rolled in cinnamon and sugar. They tasted really good.

Guy's Night

On Guy's night we went to Native New Yorker. The wings were so yummy!!!! The sauce got all over our faces. We also enjoyed some pizza. We watched some sports including an old Coyotes hockey game. Guy's RULE!!!!!

Asian Festival

We went to the Phoenix Asian festival. We had some fun going around to booths from all the asian countries and learning about them. Each country stamped page in our pretend passports.

Yoga Night

We are doing yoga this month for Life skills. We hava a volunteer who comes in to the Arc to help us. We are also going to continue to do it in May. We get a lot of exercise and peace of mind. Our muscles are huge!!!......and sore.

Sports Club

For the Sports club we went and saw an excibition game between the Cubs and D-Backs. The D-Backs won 5-3. All of us were cheering the D-Backs on except for one person who will not be named. Thanks Meg and Eric for coming to the game with us.

Ostrich Festival

On Saturday, March 13 we went to the Ostrich Festival. We saw pig races, dare devils and dogs jumping into pools. Of course we saw some ostrich races as well. Be careful because ostrich festivals make people grow pig noses and kiss. The dog jumping was cool. The dogs were jumping really far and landing in the pool. Mark and Tracy found new friends in the petting zoo.

Pita Pizza Night

On Tuesday March 9th, we made our own pita pizzas!! It was fun!! We put on sauce, cheese and our choice of the following toppings: Pepperoni, Olives, Pineapple and ham. We got to make them and then eat them. The staff helped with the oven part. They were super awesome and yummy in our tummys!!!

For Saturday, February 20th 2010, there is a change in times.
We will now be seeing the 3:00 PM showing of Guys and Dolls at Hale theatre in Gilbert, AZ. The ARC will be open at 1:30 PM--Please be here by 2:00 PM. Pick-up will be at 7:30 PM. The show will be over at 5:30 and we will head back to the ARC for dinner. Please schedule accordingly to the time changes. Hall of Flame

On Saturday we got a tour of the Hall of Flame Museum. It is a place where they have old fire fighting equioment. We got to climb on one of the fire trucks. The sirens were loud. The trucks are classic and range from the 1800's to the 2000's. We had fun!!!

On Saturday January 9th we went to the Arizona Science Center. We saw an exhibit about Robots. We also saw a disecting of a cow eye. It was interesting. Everybody had a good time. We had a picnic lunch at Heritage Square outside the Science Center.

This month we had our TAA elections. We had ballots and elected our officers. We will post a picture of the 2010 TAA officers soon!! After our elections we had open mic night and everyone got a chance to speak, sing, tell jokes and poems or whatever they wanted to do. We had great fun.

Guy's Night

On Thursday, September 24th the guys went to Oceanside Ice Arena to watch ASU vs. BYU Hockey. BYU got creamed 13-0. We got to tour the locker room before the game. The coach gave us hockey pucks with Sparky on them. Then we enjoyed the blowout. Ryan brought in his hockey gear and Rick and Daniel got dressed up as hockey players. It was very cool!! Thank you to the ASU Hockey Team and their coach Ken Lind for allowing us to enjoy a hockey game and get to know the players. Thanks for the Hockey pucks as well. Go Sun Devils!!!!!

Bennewitz's Pool Party

On Saturday June 13th we went to Paul Bennewitz's house and had a pool party. It was a blast!!! We swam all day long. We also had a BBQ lunch of hamburgers and assorted salads. It was yummy!!! We swam after lunch. We had a pie eating contest. Tony won! He ate a whole piece of pie in 59 seconds!! Wow!!! Those who didn't get to eat pie had sweet watermelon after the contest. Thanks to the Bennewitz's for throwing another amazing pool party!!

Boat Race Day

Justin, Lisa and Jeremi were our boat captains. They raced our boat on Tempe Town Lake. We did not win our heat, but we had so much fun doing it. Our boat did not sink contrary to popular demand. If we do this again we will have to have a 4th rower so that we can go faster.

Building the Boat

We built a cardboard boat. It was a fun activity. Everybody helped build the boat. We glued and taped pieces of cardboard together and made a cool looking pirate boat. Unfortunately it had to much tape to pass the inspection so we used a boat from the Tempe South Rotary Club.

Light Rail

We had a good time riding the light rail train! We boarded the light rail at Mill Avenue and rode it to the end. We ate lunch at Christown Mall. After lunch we rode the light rail back. We learned how to purchase ride fare tickets and take public transportation.

Thanksgiving Dinner 2008

Our anual Thanksgiving dinner was a great succes. The food was delectible. Our friends and family came to enjoy our company and the great food. We even had our friends who wrote our theme song come and perform it for us. They Rocked the Arc!!! Thank you to those who brought food to share with with everybody!!

Cici's Pizza

This month we went to Cici's Pizza. We ate Pizza. This is one of our favorite hangouts and a very fun activity. We always enjoy when our staff have eating competitions. They stuffed themselves.

City of Tempe Halloween Dance

On Friday, October 10th we went to the Halloween dance at the City of Tempe Pyle Center.

There where a lot of people at the dance. We hung out with all of our friends. Some of the costumes where scary and some where awesome like Beth and Robert(Batman and Batwoman). There where some games to play as well. Some people won door prizes for thier costumes. They played great music like Michael Jackson, the Backstreet Boys, Beach Boys and the Monster Mash. If you missed this party, come to the Halloween Dance on October 24th.

Sugar Bowl

On October 1st we went to the Sugar Bowl. The Sugar Bowl is our favorite Ice Cream Parlor to visit when we need some sugar. They have a small arcade with basketball hoops and an air hockey table. They always give us our own party room next to the gift shop. It is a place where we can just hang out and eat ice cream with our friends.

Special Olympics Swimming

On Tuesday September 16th we went to cheer on our ARC team who competed with the Tempe team against the other east valley cities. The Athletes who participated where: Paul, Lisa, Jeff, Kathleen and Stephen. As you can see we won lots of medals. We Rocked!!

Camp Grant 2008
We had a great time at camp grant this year we went kayaking and fishing. We renamed Camp Grant "Camp Carley" in honor of a member of the cooking staff who passed away recentley. We had a fun time hanging out with our friends and staff members from all the cities that attended. We also had some crazy kickball games on the field at Camp Carley. There were plenty of arts and crafts to keep us busy all weekend!!

Today we had an Olympic pool party. We competed in sporting events in the water. The winners won medals. Then we had a barbecue. It was yummy!! Everybody had an amazing time. Thanks to the Benewitz family for letting us use their swimming pool and providing the delicious food.

On Wednesday August 13th we took a ride in a Limo. The limo was provided to us by Aloha Limousines. We split up into groups of 6 and each group took 15 minute rides. Our driver Tim taught us about Limos. The ride was really smooth.

On August 9th we went to the Diamondbacks game. They played the Atlanta Braves. We had an awesome time even though they lost the game. We wore our rally caps when they were losing. We are huge Diamondback fans and love to see their games. GO D-BACKS!!!!
